Sample Job Description: Senior Segment Marketing Manager


The Senior Segment Marketing Manager’s responsibilities include driving top line revenue growth for a key segment in our business and improving customer engagement with and usage of existing and new products. He/She will develop and execute the strategic plan for the segment. Responsibilities also include identifying market and competitive trends, developing and refining relevant business value propositions to match these trends as well as developing marketing strategies and programs to drive growth in the segment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and leverage an in-depth understanding of customer needs within the segment.
  • Understand needs of core customers as well as emerging customers who have the potential for future growth Identify market and competitive trends that are impacting segment customers and those that are seen as opportunities for new business.
  • Develop marketing programs for the segment and works with advertising agency and marketing colleagues to execute marketing plans.
  • Execute strategic market analysis that clearly defines growth opportunities within the segment.
  • Identify segment opportunities, develop strategies, value proposition, product positioning and marketing programs to differentiate TCM from the competition and drive revenue growth.
  • Design go-to-market strategies for new product introductions.
  • Continue to develop and grow our strong base of existing customers by further penetrating existing customers with new products or reposition existing products and capabilities.
  • Leverage internal and external resources to deliver compelling integrated marketing programs that include online and offline collateral, advertising, PR, sales tool kits and training.
  • Develop a process to gather and communicate appropriate competitive intelligence to drive strategy development and educate the field on marketplace dynamics.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5-8 years of Product/Segment Management experience.
  • Experience in the information services, legal or publishing industry a plus. Strong analytical and influencing skills required.
  • Prior segmentation experience is highly desired along with the ability to demonstrate measurable results from effort.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and realize new opportunities.
  • Strong marketing experience – ability to identify marketing program opportunities and achieve market success. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, an absolute must; formal presentation skills a definite plus.
  • Must be able to accomplish results in a cross-functional team environment, exhibiting formal and informal leadership skills and a strong goal / results orientation.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Four year college degree required; preferred area would include marketing/product management.
  • MBA strongly preferred.
